Name: Annie Alabaster
Age: 28
   Age upon arrival: 25
Gender: Female
Pokemon: Sceptile
Height: 6'5"
Bodystyle: Athletic
Birthday: March 26th
Home Island: Affection Atoll
Job: Farmer
Farm Name: Farthing Fields

Personality: (+hardworking, +sympathetic, +easy-going, ~oblivious, ~active, ~determined, -easily distracted, -no social boundaries, -reckless)
Nature: Lonely (+attack, -defense) Likes to run.

Lively and hardworking, Annie believes that an active life is a happy life. She’s your girl for any kind of heavy lifting or physical labor. She’s a very good listener, but she can be just as talkative as well. While she is empathetic and easy-going to a point, she’s secretly a bundle of energy that is always up for an adventure. Most of the time it’s because she’s embroiled herself into someone else’s problems and she refuses to give up until it is resolved. She will usually put other’s well being before hers, making her a reliable and loyal companion. She'll always be there to stick up for you and can't tolerate bullying of any kind. On top of everything else, she’s very objective about the world around her and doesn’t give much thought to people’s thoughts or quirks.

This can easily backfire, however, because she can miss important cues. While she’s very perceptive of body language, she can’t understand sarcasm and metaphors. Her clueless nature can lead to a few inappropriate questions or blunt remark, though most of them are innocent in nature. Annie is also incredibly stubborn and reckless. She will pursue hopeless and dangerous endeavors regardless of her failures. Because of this, she gets hurt often and frequently overworks herself. Many of her family members believe it’s a miracle she’s still alive today and some feel this may not continue for long. On top of everything else, her harsh upbringing has instilled a few insecurities as well. She dislikes the idea of depending on others and dreads the day she actually finds someone she likes. Ironically, she's someone who could use a life long companion the most, as little social contact can leave Annie very emotional and depressed.

A visit from Annie's father has left the Sceptile a bit melancholy about her family relations and has kindled a protective instinct in her. Bad parenting can set this woman off, and with muscles like that you may want to watch out! In addition, the burn her father left as a parting gift has drudged up some latent insecurities about her looks...luckily she's made some good friends, and she's starting to talk more about her insterest in fantasy.

History:

The Alabasters were known for three things: Qaulity crops, proud fighters, and total independence. Very few outsiders could get in this clan’s good graces, because if you weren’t an Alabaster, you weren’t worth their time. It wasn’t a law that was set in stone for the family, but it was a prominent view they held. And perhaps the one who held it the strongest was Roshi, the family’s current Patriarch.
It was no secret that Roshi Alabaster wanted a Torchic daughter. He was already proud of his Tepig son. He’d be ecstatic to know that not only one, but two of his children would take up his fire/fighting torch.

So you can only imagine the disappointment he felt when his daughter was blessed with a Treeko totem.

For Annie, her problematic home life was something she never truly understood as a child. She lived in a loud household with parents who cared for her basic needs and disciplined her well. Her mother was passive and gentle, while her father was strict yet dismissive. Experience was her hardest teacher, but it was Christopher to taught her the most. Her gentle older brother was quiet and laid back, a stark contrast to Annie’s loud and rambunctious lifestyle. While Christopher taught Annie how to read in the morning, Annie would drag Christopher out to play and tussle with him. At night, the siblings would visit their older cousin Estelle and enjoy some…age appropriate Dungeons and Dragonites. Life was simple and fun. And Annie didn’t want it any other way.

Her brother thought differently. As Roshi’s clear favorite, where was a lot of pressure on him to take up his old man’s favorite sport: boxing. But Chris felt a different calling. He preferred to throw his weight around in the most literal sense. He wanted to pursue wrestling, and it was something Indigo Alabaster, his uncle, recognized. The Gallade stepped in as a second father to Annie and Christopher, and it clearly caused tension in the family unit. Indigo’s protests in Christopher’s defense kindled something in Annie. As the Treeko approached her teens, she raised her voice to her father more and more. While Indigo might have been the inspiration, Annie was the driving force behind Christopher’s departure. Thanks to her, the newly evolved Pignite was free to pursue his passion away from home.

But it quickly became apparent that Annie was missing her brother. Though she wrote him daily, it was not the same without him. With no partner in crime, and no true passion to speak of (other than D&D and fantasy because apparently that was “inappropriate”), Indigo decided to take the grass type under his wing. He taught her the art of fencing, and the sport fit Annie like a glove. She underwent an intense 5 years of training. In that time, she grew very fond of her Gallade uncle, and some of his black mareep attitude rubbed off on her. By age 17, Annie was a skilled swoardswoman and a freshly evolved Grovyle. She was also a harsh critic of Roshi, but she mostly kept it to herself. After all, he was still her father.

Indigo, as Roshi’s brother, felt differently on the matter. He was quick to point out his older brother’s terrible habits and pride. Roshi, in turn, would chew the Gallade out. On rare occasions, the arguments broke out into violence. Their feud grew so volatile that family dinners turned into family battle royales. Finally, Indigo took matters into his own hands and split from the Alabasters altogether. Roshi brooded in silence at his brother’s departure. Annie meanwhile, felt caught in the middle. Now that the Grovyle was a legal adult at the age of 21, Roshi thought she needed some hard work to evolve into her final form, and charged his daughter with caring for the family pecha berry fields. Annie eagerly took up the job.

She did well for a while. The work was hard, but Annie didn’t mind. She was a ball of energy anyway. Tending the Alabaster fields was a great way to burn that off. The only complaint she had was the spiders... The poison types loved the smell and taste of the pecha berries the Alabasters grew. On one of her less than attentive days, Annie startled an Ariados. She was bitten and badly poisoned on the spot. Her family rushed her inside and debated on how to best treat her. As such a traditional family, taking her to the hospital was out of the question. People walked out of there with more diseases than they had going in! No, this situation called for more practical methods.

Annie was put on a steady diet or water, pecha berries, and a bit of whiskey. Rubbing alcohol was used to sterilize the wound. Annie was bedridden for three grueling months. She was able to walk again by the end of the year. After two years, she could go outside again. As soon as she stepped out, she evolved into a Sceptile. She was finally back to good health, but overall, she was improperly treated. The ordeal opened her eyes to her family’s, and her father’s, skewed views and morals. Annie needed to get away. She couldn’t live with her father any longer. She wrote to her brother again, asking for advice, and Christopher responded with a gift: his prize money from the Sinnoh Wrestling League. With his blessing, Annie started looking for places to live, and her eye was drawn to an island chain named Raccolto.

Getting permission from her father wasn’t easy. But to her, it didn’t matter whether or not he approved. She was leaving, and she made abundantly clear over a tense dinner. The rest of Annie’s family stayed out of this debate. Though many were on Roshi’s side, Annie had some fair points. She could make a name for the Alabasters somewhere else, expand the business, plant some roots…Roshi disliked the idea. But through the grace of Arceus, he relented. Annie bought a ticket for her new home the next morning, and was off like a flash to the islands.

It has been 2 years since Annie Alabaster settled down in Affection Atoll. She enjoys an active life filled with good friends and excitement. She’s entered two fighting tournaments, lost one and redeemed herself in another. Her totem’s been changed quite a few times and each new look comes with new challenges. Her love of Dungeons and Dragonites has proven contagious and she’s established a group she plays with weekly. However, a visit from her father last summer has soured her sweet experiences and burned a few bridges between good pals. The scars (both literal and figurative) from this ordeal run deep, but Annie hopes that they'll eventually heal, and she'll be able to reconnect with the friends that she's lost.

She soon found, however, that this Glameow expects the finest treatment and detests work (something Annie is determined to change). However, Duchess is always willing to do a little work if it means she'll get a treat.  She’s a bit two-faced towards Annie and does things either out of spite or to get attention. She also dislikes anything that isn’t a cat Pokémon and will cling to Annie out of fear or disgust. But no matter what, Duchess will stick around. Where else will she get all this free food?
